HDMI is the most common console board repair we do. On PS5 and Xbox the port is soldered to the board, and when it breaks — usually a cable yanked or caught — the pins bend or the port tears its pads. Some no-picture faults are the HDMI chip behind the port instead, which is why we test both. Our dedicated PS5 and Xbox HDMI pages go into the detail.
The Nintendo Switch has two well-known board failures: the power-delivery chip and the battery charging chip beside it, both easily damaged by a non-compliant dock or charger. The symptom is a Switch that will not charge or will not turn on at all. Both chips are replaceable, along with the USB-C port, which is soldered straight to the board.
No-power faults on any console usually come down to a shorted component on a supply rail, found on the bench and replaced. On a PS5, liquid metal that has escaped its seal can short parts around the processor, so we check for it on every board we open.
Retro consoles are restorations as much as repairs: original capacitors leak and corrode the board over time, and handhelds such as the Game Gear are known for it. We replace failed components and repair the traces the corrosion has eaten.
