Xbox Series X|S and Elite
Bumpers and triggers take the most abuse and fail before anything else. The Elite Series 2 is worth repairing rather than replacing given what it costs new.
Joy-Con and Switch Pro
Joy-Con drift is close to a design fault, and the Pro Controller drifts for the same reason. Both take replacement stick modules; neither needs a new controller.

Is it worth repairing a controller rather than buying a new one?

Almost always. A drifting stick is a worn module, not a worn-out controller — everything else in it is usually fine. A repair costs a fraction of a new DualSense or Elite pad, and on an Elite Series 2 it is not close. We give you a fixed quote after the free diagnostic so you can make that call with a real number in front of you.
What actually causes stick drift?

The potentiometers inside the thumbstick module wear down with use, so the neutral position stops reading as neutral and the console sees input that is not there. It is mechanical wear, which is why recalibrating in software helps for a while and then stops helping. Once it has started, the fix is a new module.
Can you fit Hall effect sticks so it does not drift again?

Yes, on request. Hall effect modules use magnets rather than physical contacts, so there is nothing to wear out in the way that causes drift in the first place. They cost more than a standard module and it is worth asking about if this is the second time a controller has come in.
How long does a controller repair take?

Controllers are among the quicker jobs once they are with us — there is no display or battery glue to work around. You will get a realistic timeframe with your quote rather than an optimistic one.
Can I post a controller in?

Yes, and it is the sensible way to do it from outside Newcastle — a controller is small, light and cheap to post. Mail-in is free both ways, tracked and insured, across the whole UK.
