Signs you need this repair

  • Nothing at all when the power button is pressed
  • Turns on for a second or two, then switches off
  • Power button lights but there is no fan and no picture
  • Died after a power cut, a storm or a surge
  • Burning smell before it stopped working

What actually goes wrong

Every current Xbox has its power supply built inside the console, and after a surge or years of heat it is the first suspect. It is a self-contained unit, so it is the quickest thing to prove or rule out — and a good power supply means the fault is on the motherboard.

On the board, the usual culprit is a component that has failed short on one of the supply rails. The console senses the short and shuts down to protect itself, which is why so many dead Xboxes light up for a moment and then go dark. We find the shorted part with a bench supply and thermal imaging and replace it under the microscope.

A small number of no-power faults are simpler than they look: the power button's own board, or the cable from the power supply. They are checked first, because they are the cheapest repairs to prove.

Everything is done in-house, and we confirm which fault you have before quoting, so you only pay for the repair the console actually needs.
