PS5 HDMI Port Repair

The HDMI port is the single most common PS5 failure we see, and the cause is almost always mechanical rather than electronic. The port is soldered directly to the mainboard and sits right at the back of the console — so when the console is pulled forward with the cable still attached, or knocked off a shelf, or the cable is trodden on, the force goes straight into the solder joints and the port pins.

Sound with no picture is the classic signature. HDMI carries audio and video over the same connector but on different pins, so a port with a few damaged pins will often still pass audio while the video lines are dead. That symptom is useful, because it tells us the console itself is alive and it is the port that has gone.

This is a board-level repair, not a plug-in part swap. The old port has to be desoldered without lifting the pads underneath it, the pads cleaned up, and the new port reflowed under a microscope. Done badly it destroys the board permanently, which is why we do it in-house rather than sending it on, and why we check for pad damage before quoting rather than after.

Where a previous repair attempt has already torn pads off the board, it is often still recoverable — the traces can be jumpered — but it is a longer job and we will price it honestly. Send it in as it is; there is no lecture attached to a repair that did not go to plan.
