- Dead or black screen straight after a BIOS or firmware update

- Stuck in a boot loop before the operating system loads
- Graphics card not detected after a firmware flash
What actually goes wrong
Every laptop, motherboard and graphics card keeps its firmware on a small flash chip on the board. If an update is interrupted, or the chip develops a fault, the machine has nothing to start from. It looks completely dead, even though the hardware is fine.
We read the chip with a programmer, check what is on it, and write a clean firmware image for that exact board revision. Where the chip itself has failed, it is replaced with a new one and then programmed.
The detail that matters is that a firmware chip holds more than the firmware. It also carries the board's own serial number, network addresses and often the embedded Windows licence key. A generic image copied from the internet loses all of that. We carry the board's own data across into the clean image, so the machine comes back as itself.
Macs with a T2 chip or Apple silicon recover their firmware differently, through a restore from another Mac. That is something we can do too, and we will tell you which route your machine needs.
