Signs you need this repair

  • Nothing at all — no lights, no sound, no charging indicator
  • Draws power from the charger but never turns on
  • Turns on and immediately turns off again
  • Boot loops, or stuck on the logo
  • Fault comes and goes when the device is warm or cold

What actually goes wrong

When a device is completely dead, the most likely cause is a single component that has failed short and is pulling a supply rail to ground. The device protects itself by refusing to start. The rest of the board is usually fine — which is why replacing the whole board is so often unnecessary.

We find the short by feeding the rail a low, current-limited voltage from a bench power supply and watching for the component that warms up, using a thermal camera. Once found, it is removed and replaced, and the rail is checked again before the device is powered normally.

Intermittent faults are harder and need more time: a cracked solder joint that opens when the board warms, a corroded connection that comes and goes. They are found by reproducing the fault on the bench under heat, cold and load, rather than hoping it shows itself.
