Common console repairs

HDMI Port Replacement

Black screen or no display is almost always a damaged HDMI port — the single most common console fault. We micro-solder a new port onto PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One boards.

No Power / Won’t Turn On

Blue, white or red light of death, or nothing at all — we diagnose the power supply, board and components to find why it won’t boot, then quote the actual fix.

Overheating & Loud Fan

Shutting down mid-game or sounding like a jet? We strip, deep-clean and re-paste the cooling system (and replace the fan if needed) to bring temperatures and noise back down.

PS5 Liquid Metal Replacement

Sony used liquid metal on the PS5 APU rather than thermal paste, and it migrates and dries out with heat cycling. We reapply it with the board masked — it is electrically conductive, and this is the job that kills consoles when it is done on a kitchen table.

Disc Drive Repair

Won’t read, load or eject discs, or grinding on insert — we repair or replace the drive and laser on PlayStation, Xbox and retro consoles.

Joy-Con & Controller Drift

Stick drift on Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons, DualSense or Xbox controllers — we replace the analogue stick modules so your input is accurate again.

Storage, Liquid & Board-Level

PS5 SSD upgrades and failures, corrupted storage, liquid damage and deeper board-level faults — handled with proper diagnostics, not guesswork.

Controller repairs

Stick drift, dead buttons, broken triggers, charging faults and connection drop-outs — fixed on PS5 DualSense, Xbox, PS4 and Nintendo Switch Joy-Con & Pro Controllers. You get a £45 diagnostic that is waived when you go ahead with the repair, and no fix, no fee.

Console repair guidance

How do I know if it’s the HDMI port or something else?

If the console powers on (fan spins, light comes on) but you get no picture on a TV you know works — and a different HDMI cable and port don’t help — it’s almost always the console’s HDMI port. We confirm it during the diagnostic before any work, because a no-display fault can occasionally be the board instead.

What should I bring with my console?

Just the console itself for most repairs. If the fault is power-related, bring your power cable. For disc-drive issues, let us know whether it fails on every disc or just some. The more detail on when the fault started, the faster and more accurate the diagnosis.

How long do console repairs take?

Cleaning, re-paste and controller/Joy-Con repairs are often quick turnarounds. HDMI port replacement and board-level work involve micro-soldering and testing, so they take longer. We give you a realistic timeframe with your quote after the diagnostic.

Is it worth repairing an older console?

Usually, yes — an HDMI port, fan or drive repair costs a fraction of a new console, and we run no fix, no fee so you’re never charged for a console we can’t repair. If a repair ever isn’t worth it for your model, we’ll tell you straight.

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch?

Yes — PlayStation (PS5, PS4 and older), Xbox (Series X/S, One and 360), the full Nintendo Switch range, Steam Deck and most handhelds. HDMI ports, power faults, overheating, disc drives and stick drift are our everyday console jobs.

How much does a console repair cost?

It depends on the console and fault, so we don’t quote misleading flat rates. We run a full diagnostic and give you a fixed quote before any work starts. The £45 diagnostic fee is waived when you go ahead with the repair. With no fix, no fee, there is nothing to pay if we can’t repair it.

Can you fix PS5 / Xbox HDMI ports?

Yes. HDMI port replacement is one of our most common console repairs. The port is micro-soldered to the mainboard, so it’s a workshop job rather than a plug-in part — we remove the damaged port and fit a new one, then test on a screen before handover.

Can you fix Joy-Con drift?

Yes — Joy-Con and controller stick drift is caused by worn analogue stick modules, which we replace to restore accurate control. We repair Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons, DualSense and Xbox controllers.

My console overheats and shuts down — can you help?

That’s usually dust build-up and dried-out thermal paste restricting cooling. We strip the console, deep-clean it, apply fresh thermal compound and replace the fan if it’s worn, which typically resolves overheating shutdowns and excessive fan noise.
