Signs you need this repair
- Disc not recognised, or the console asks you to insert a disc
- Grinding or clicking noise from the drive
- Drive will not accept or eject discs
- Disc stuck in the console
What actually goes wrong
As on the PS5, the Xbox disc drive's control board is paired to the console, so a drive taken from another console will not work on its own. We repair the mechanism or the laser where we can, and where the drive is replaced we transfer your original control board so the pairing is kept.
The Series S has no disc drive at all, so if you have a Series S that is asking for a disc, the problem is the game or the console software rather than hardware.
