What needs fixing?

Pick the fault and you will get the detail for that specific repair — what causes it, how we tell it apart from the faults it gets confused with, and what we actually do about it.

Which model do you have?

Xbox Series X

The tower. Excellent cooling by design, but it draws air from the base upwards, so consoles standing on carpet load their heatsinks with dust faster than anything else in the range. The HDMI port sits low at the back where cables get levered.

Xbox Series S

Smaller, cheaper, and far more thermally constrained — there is much less room for dust before the cooling stops coping. It is also the model most often moved between rooms and TVs, which is why its HDMI ports take a beating.

Xbox One / One S / One X

Still very much repairable and still worth repairing. Older consoles arrive with dried thermal paste and dust-choked heatsinks as a matter of course, and the One X in particular rewards a thermal service.

Not sure which revision you have? Send it in and we will identify it during the free diagnostic — you do not need to work it out before booking.

Xbox repair FAQs

How much does an Xbox HDMI port repair cost?

It depends on whether the port alone has failed or the board underneath has been damaged, so we run a free diagnostic and quote a fixed price before any work starts. A straightforward port replacement is one job; a port that has pulled pads off the board is another. You will know which before you commit, and if we cannot fix it there is no fee.

My Xbox has sound but no picture. Is that the HDMI port?

Usually, yes. HDMI carries audio and video on different pins through the same connector, so a port with damaged video pins will often still pass sound. It is the most common presentation of a failed port and it tells us the console itself is alive. We confirm it against the HDMI retimer chip during the diagnostic, because that is a different repair.

Do you repair the Xbox Series S as well as the Series X?

Both, along with the Xbox One family. The Series S is more thermally constrained than the Series X, so it tends to arrive needing cooling work sooner, and its ports take more punishment because the console gets moved around more.

Does the Xbox use liquid metal like the PS5?

No. That is a PS5 thing — Sony used liquid metal as the thermal interface on the PS5 APU. The Xbox Series X and S use conventional thermal compound, so the equivalent Xbox service is a thermal paste renewal and a deep clean. If a shop is offering you liquid metal for an Xbox, ask them why.

Do you open the console yourself or send it away?

Everything is done on our own bench, including board-level micro-soldering under a microscope. Nothing gets posted on to a third party, which keeps the turnaround honest and the quote fixed.

Can I post my Xbox to you?

Yes. Mail-in covers the whole UK, free both ways, tracked and insured. We diagnose it, quote before any work, and send it back — you do not need to be near Newcastle.
