Signs you need this repair
- "Unrecognised disc" on discs that used to work
- Grinding, clicking or beeping when a disc is inserted
- Drive will not accept a disc, or ejects it straight away
- Disc stuck inside the console
What actually goes wrong
The disc drive's control board is paired to the console's motherboard, so a replacement drive from another console will not simply work. We repair the drive mechanism where we can, and where it has to be replaced we keep your original control board so the pairing survives.
The PS5 Slim uses a detachable drive that pairs with the console online the first time it is connected. That makes swapping a Slim drive simpler, but it still needs the console to be set up and online to finish the job.
A stuck disc should not be forced out with anything sharp — the drive has a manual eject, and we can get the disc out safely as part of the repair.
