What actually goes wrong
The original LCD Steam Deck uses a 7-inch 1280×800 panel with the digitiser bonded to the glass. That bonding is why a crack usually means replacing the display assembly rather than the glass alone — but it is worth us confirming, because a Deck that has only chipped at the bezel edge sometimes needs nothing more than the glass.
Valve designed the Deck to be opened, which works in your favour: this is a far less fiddly repair than a modern phone, and it does not require heat-and-pry work that risks the internals. What it does require is care with the ribbon cables running to the trackpads, which sit directly beneath the panel.
We fit the panel matched to your exact revision. The LCD Deck shipped in more than one display variant, and a panel from the wrong batch will either not seat correctly or will not register touch across the full surface.
