Signs you need this repair

  • Only charges if the cable is held just so
  • No charging light and no response from the charger
  • Dock works but the direct cable does not
  • Port feels loose or the cable falls out

What actually goes wrong

The USB-C port sits at the top of the Deck, which is exactly where the cable gets levered when the device is set down while charging. Over time that rocks the port on its solder joints until the connection becomes intermittent — the classic "only charges at a certain angle" symptom.

A port that has come loose is a board-level repair rather than a plug-in part swap: the connector is soldered directly to the mainboard, so it needs desoldering and reflowing under a microscope. We do this in-house rather than sending it on.

If the port looks fine, the fault is often further along the charge circuit, or it is the battery refusing charge rather than the port failing to deliver it. The diagnostic separates those before we quote, so you are not paying for a port replacement that was never going to fix it.
