Signs you need this repair
- Cracked or spidered glass after a drop or a knock to the lid
- Vertical or horizontal lines across the display
- Backlight lit but the picture is black or very dim
- Dark patches, blotches or clusters of dead pixels
- Display cuts out or flickers at certain lid angles
What actually goes wrong
The MacBook Neo uses a 13-inch Liquid Retina panel running at 2408 by 1506 and 500 nits. Like every modern Apple laptop display it is a bonded assembly, so a cracked Neo screen is a display replacement rather than a glass-only job — there is no separate sheet of glass to lift away from the panel underneath. Anyone quoting you for "just the glass" on one of these has not worked on one.
What is different, and what works in your favour, is everything around the panel. On a MacBook Pro the display job drags half the machine into it. On the Neo the internals are laid out flat and modular, so the display assembly comes off without disturbing the keyboard, the speakers or the ports. That is less labour on the invoice for the same repair.
A screen that flickers or dies at particular lid angles is usually telling you the fault is the display cable rather than the panel — a cheaper repair, but only if it is diagnosed properly before someone replaces a perfectly good screen. Our diagnostic separates panel faults from cable faults from board-level graphics faults, and you get a fixed price for the one you actually have.
On a machine that cost £599 new, a smashed screen is the one repair where the sums genuinely need checking. We will quote you the fixed price and say plainly whether we think it is worth doing — we would rather tell you to keep the money than take it for a repair that does not make sense.
