What actually goes wrong
Three things, in order, and they matter more than anything else on this page. Do not turn it on. Do not plug it in to "see if it still works". Do not put it in rice — it does nothing for the liquid already on the board and it adds starch and dust to the problem. Power flowing through a wet board is what turns a cleanable spill into a dead logic board, and it usually happens in the first few minutes, before the machine ever reaches us.
The damage from a spill is corrosion, not water, and corrosion keeps working long after everything feels dry. That is why a laptop can seem fine for a fortnight and then start losing the keyboard, the trackpad or a port one at a time. If liquid got in, it needs cleaning properly whether or not it is currently working.
What we do is strip the machine, clean the board ultrasonically to remove residue and corrosion from under the components where a wipe cannot reach, treat the affected areas, and then test each subsystem individually. The Neo helps here more than most laptops: because the keyboard, speakers, ports and trackpad are all separate modules rather than one bonded assembly, we can replace exactly the parts the liquid killed instead of quoting for the whole upper half of the machine.
We will not promise a liquid-damaged machine is recoverable before we have opened it, because nobody honestly can — it depends on what was spilled, where it reached and whether it was powered on afterwards. The diagnostic tells you the answer, and the quote reflects the actual damage rather than a worst case.
