What actually goes wrong
Liquid metal is the ROG-specific risk. It cools far better than paste, but it is electrically conductive, and if it escapes the processor — after a knock, or a repaste done the wrong way — it can short the tiny components around the chip. The laptop then refuses to start. We clean the metal off the board, find what it shorted and replace those parts.
Strix and SCAR models run their GPUs at high power, and the power stages that feed them work hard. When one fails it usually fails short and the laptop appears dead, although the rest of the board is fine. That is a component repair, at a fraction of the cost of a new board.
Our specialist board-level technician diagnoses these at component level in our Newcastle workshop. It is price on application: you get a fixed quote once we know what has failed.
