Signs you need this repair
- Plugged in but not charging
- Stops at 60% or 80% and goes no higher
- Charges over USB-C but not from the barrel charger, or the other way round
- Charges only with the plug held at an angle
- Battery drains in games even on the charger
What actually goes wrong
Check the software before booking. Battery Health Charging in Armoury Crate or MyASUS can hold the battery at 60% or 80% to slow wear. It is a sensible setting for a laptop that lives on its charger, but it looks exactly like a fault.
Many Zephyrus and Flow models charge from USB-C as well as the barrel charger, which helps the diagnosis: if one input works and the other does not, the fault is usually that port or its part of the circuit, not the battery or the board as a whole.
USB-C cannot supply the full power an ROG draws in games, so draining under load on USB-C is expected. On the barrel charger it is not — that points to the charger, the port or the charging circuit, and all three are repairable.
