- Cracked or shattered screen
- Touch stopped responding, or responds in the wrong place
- Lines, dead pixels or patches of colour
- Black screen, but the console works on the TV
What actually goes wrong
How a Switch screen is repaired depends on the model. The original Switch and the Lite have the touch glass and the LCD as separate layers, so a crack that has only broken the glass can be fixed by replacing the glass and touch layer, leaving the display. If the picture itself is damaged — lines, bleeding colour, black areas — the LCD needs replacing too.
The Switch OLED bonds its glass to the OLED panel, so any crack means a full display assembly. OLED panels are more expensive than the LCD, which is why we confirm the model before quoting.
A black handheld screen with a working TV picture is not always the panel. The display connector and the backlight circuit can fail too, and both are cheaper repairs, so we test before quoting a new screen.
