Signs you need this repair

  • Fan loud or grinding, especially when docked
  • Console very hot to touch at the top vent
  • Games slow down or the console shuts down
  • Rattling noise from inside the console

What actually goes wrong

Every Switch model, the Lite included, has a small fan that pulls air across the processor heatsink. Dust and pet hair clog it over the years, the thermal compound dries, and the fan has to work harder to do less — until it starts to grind.

The fix is a strip-down: the heatsink and fan cleaned, old compound replaced with fresh, and a worn fan replaced. Docked play pushes the console hardest, so that is where a tired fan usually shows itself first.
