Signs you need this repair
- "The game card could not be read" on every game
- Games crash or freeze mid-play when the cartridge is used
- Cartridge sits loose, or the slot cover has broken
- Some games read and others do not
What actually goes wrong
The game card reader has a row of fine spring pins that wear, bend or collect dirt over years of cartridges going in and out. A card pushed in at an angle can bend a pin outright. The result is the familiar "could not be read" error, or games that crash part way through.
If several cartridges fail, the reader is the problem. We replace the card reader assembly and test it with multiple cartridges. If only one game fails, the cartridge itself is the likely culprit — we will tell you before you pay for a reader.
