What actually goes wrong
Legions let you choose how the graphics work: a hybrid mode, where the processor's own graphics run the desktop and the NVIDIA GPU wakes for games, or a mode that runs everything on the GPU. When that setting, Lenovo Vantage and the drivers get out of step, a perfectly good GPU can seem to vanish or underperform, so we rule that out first. There is no point paying for hardware work on a settings problem.
When it is hardware, the usual culprit is the GPU's power circuit rather than the chip: a failed power stage or capacitor starves the GPU, so it drops out, runs at a fraction of its power, or crashes under load. Those are component repairs on the board.
If the GPU chip itself has failed, the job becomes BGA work — removing and replacing or reballing the chip. It has real limits and is not economical on every model, and the diagnostic tells you which side of that line yours sits before you spend anything.
