MacBook Liquid Damage Repair
A spill, and a machine that will not start, or started and then got steadily worse.
If it has just happened, stop using it now. Shut it down, do not charge it, and do not leave it in rice — the delay is what causes the permanent damage, not the liquid itself. The sooner the board is cleaned, the more of it survives.

Signs you need this repair
- Coffee, water or wine went into the keyboard
- Powers on but the keyboard or trackpad misbehaves
- Worked after the spill, then failed days or weeks later
- No power at all, or fans spin with no display
- Battery no longer charges since the spill
What actually goes wrong
Three things matter more than the size of the spill: what the liquid was, whether the machine was on at the time, and how long it has been sitting. Water alone is survivable. Anything with sugar or salt in it — coffee, cola, wine, seawater — leaves a residue that keeps conducting and keeps corroding long after the liquid has dried, which is why a MacBook that seemed fine for a fortnight can fail out of nowhere.
The single most useful thing you can do is stop using it and stop charging it, then get it to us quickly. Do not put it in rice — that is folklore, it does nothing for residue already sitting on the board, and the delay is what does the real damage. If you can hold the power button to shut it down fully, do that. Every day the corrosion advances.
Our work here is board-level rather than parts-swapping. The board comes out, goes through an ultrasonic clean to lift residue out from under the chips where you cannot reach it by hand, and then we trace what is still failing under a microscope and repair it. Sometimes that is a few corroded components and it comes back to life. Sometimes the damage has reached something that cannot be economically saved, and we will tell you that plainly rather than bill you for hope.
Whatever the outcome for the machine, we prioritise your data. If the board can be brought up even briefly we get the drive imaged — and on Apple Silicon and T2 MacBooks, where the SSD is soldered and tied to the board, that window is the only chance there is, which is another reason not to wait.
