Cracked screen and glass
Good news on the iPad 2: the glass digitiser sits above a separate LCD rather than being bonded to it. If your picture is still perfect and only the front is cracked, we can replace the glass on its own — a substantially cheaper repair than the full display assembly most iPads need. If the display underneath is damaged too, showing lines, black patches or bleeding colour, then both layers go. The diagnostic tells us which of the two you are actually paying for before you commit to anything.
Battery replacement
The iPad 2 is around 15 years old now, and iPad batteries are typically good for somewhere around a thousand full charge cycles before capacity falls away noticeably. If yours drains overnight while idle, drops in large jumps, or dies well before the ten hours it managed when new, the cell is the likely cause rather than iPadOS. Every iPad battery is adhered into the chassis, so this is a workshop job rather than a five-minute swap — the panel has to come off first, which is exactly why it is worth having done by someone who removes iPad screens routinely.
Charging faults
Charging faults on the iPad 2 come through the 30-pin dock connector, and the port itself is usually the problem rather than the board. Ports fail mechanically — they take the strain of every cable pulled out at an angle, and pocket lint compacts into the bottom of the connector until the plug can no longer seat fully. If yours only charges when the cable is held at a particular angle, or has become loose and wobbly, that is a port replacement rather than anything more serious. Original 30-pin cables are also long out of production and frequently the actual culprit, so we test with a known-good one before condemning the port.
Home button
The iPad 2 has no Touch ID or Face ID, which makes a screen repair simpler than on later iPads — there is no paired sensor to preserve. The home button is a plain button, so if yours has stopped clicking we can replace it outright without losing any functionality.
Liquid damage
A spilled drink on a iPad 2 needs treating as corrosion rather than water, and corrosion keeps working long after everything feels dry. Do not charge it and do not use rice. We strip it, clean the board properly to remove residue from under the components, and test each subsystem individually. Bring it in as soon as it happens — the delay between the spill and the bench is the thing that decides how much survives.
Cameras, speakers and buttons
Blurred or black rear camera images, a front camera that fails on video calls, muffled speakers, and volume or power buttons that need a hard press are all individually repairable on the iPad 2. None of them require a new iPad, and none of them require replacing the screen, which is worth knowing before somebody quotes you for one.
