What actually goes wrong
Which repair your iPad needs depends entirely on how old it is, and the difference in cost is large. On the standard iPad up to the 9th generation, the glass digitiser is a separate layer from the LCD underneath — so a cracked screen with a perfect picture usually needs only the glass, which is the cheapest screen repair we do on any device. On iPad Air, Pro and the 10th generation onwards, the glass is laminated to the display, and a crack means replacing the whole assembly.
That is worth knowing before you accept a quote, because a shop quoting laminated-assembly prices for a device that only needs a digitiser is overcharging by a wide margin. We identify the exact model first and quote for the repair it actually needs.
The other thing we check before touching the glass is the frame. iPads are large, thin and land flat, so a drop that cracks the screen often bends the aluminium chassis slightly as well — and a new screen fitted to a bowed frame will not sit flush and will crack again at the same corner. Where the frame has gone we will tell you, because fitting glass to it is money wasted.
