Signs you need this repair
- Character walks on its own with the stick untouched
- Stick needs a big push before it registers
- Joy-Con will not stay attached, or keeps disconnecting
- Only one side responds after attaching
- Pro Controller drifting or not charging
What actually goes wrong
Joy-Con drift is close to a design fault rather than bad luck, which is why so many people have met it. The stick module is small, tightly packed and wears at the contacts, and once it starts it does not recover — resetting and recalibrating buys days, not months. The repair is a replacement module, and it is a quick one.
The Switch Pro Controller drifts for exactly the same reason despite being a much larger pad. It is the same job on a different board, and given what a Pro Controller costs new it is well worth doing rather than replacing.
The other Joy-Con failure is the rail rather than the stick. A Joy-Con that will not stay attached, or that disconnects when the console is knocked, usually has a worn or bent rail contact — a different repair from drift, and worth saying which one you have when you book so we quote for the right thing.
