What actually goes wrong
Alienwares move a lot of air, and they pull dust in with it. Over a year or two it packs into the heatsink fins where the fans cannot clear it, the thermal compound dries out, and the laptop starts throttling or shutting down under load.
Some recent high-end models use a gallium-based thermal compound Dell calls Element 31 rather than ordinary paste. It needs a different approach when it is renewed, so we identify what your Alienware shipped with before we strip it.
The job is a full strip-down: fans and heatsinks cleaned directly, old compound and pads replaced, and worn fans swapped. Compressed air through the vents does not reach the fins, and can push dust further in. Before it goes back, we check the fan profiles in Alienware Command Center are not holding the cooling back.
