AirPods One Side Not Working

This is the most common AirPods complaint there is, and it has four usual causes with very different price tags — which is why guessing is expensive. In rough order of likelihood: a blocked speaker mesh, a worn battery on that side, a failed speaker driver, or a pairing and firmware fault that is not hardware at all.

The last one is worth ruling out before you spend anything, and you can do it yourself in five minutes. Put both AirPods in the case, hold the button on the back until the light flashes amber then white, and re-pair them to your phone. If the quiet side comes back, it was never broken. It costs nothing to try and it resolves a real share of cases.

If a reset does not fix it, the diagnostic tells us which of the other three it is. A blocked mesh is a cleaning job. A tired cell on one side is a battery job — and batteries genuinely do fail unevenly, because the side you use for calls does more work. A failed driver is the least common and the one where we will talk to you honestly about whether repair or replacement makes better sense for the pair you have.
